Moreton Means Business

Moreton Hall is renowned for nurturing young entrepreneurs. A wide range of extra-curricular activities complements pupils’ studies and offers real opportunities for developing their business skills and leadership qualities. From Directors’ Tables and business conferences to interview and life skills training, our programme is unique, dynamic and constantly evolving to push boundaries and extend enterprise beyond the curriculum.

At the centre of this effort is Moreton Entreprises (ME), a unique, student-led, in-house business, which has run continuously for the past 25 years. ME is managed entirely by our Sixth Form students, with a new board of directors appointed each year. Each board has the opportunity to make their mark on a business that evolves to reflect the talents of the team and needs of their pupil and parent customers. ME moves the students from the theoretical study of business to hands-on, real-world work experience. Shops need to be opened, accounts managed, supplies ordered, marketing plans created and customers enticed through the doors.

“Moreton Enterprises has given me a great opportunity to strengthen my business skills and show universities and future employers my capabilities.”

Managing Director, Moreton Enterprises

Under the umbrella of Moreton Means Business, there are many initiatives designed to prepare pupils for their next steps and to develop vital character traits such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, resilience and integrity. Here are just a few.

Moreton Enterprises

Twenty-five years strong, Moreton Entreprises (ME) gives students complete control of a student-led business. From inventory and accounts to marketing and serving, the students run a Tuck Shop that serves the pupil population and a Coffee Shop which is open to family and friends. Each year a new board of directors is appointed to take the helm and make their mark and gain real life skills in the process.

Directors’ Table

Directors’ Table events invite guests from regional businesses to engage in lively, interactive discussions led by our enthusiastic young entrepreneurs. These are not career talks, but informal discussions, led by business leaders who share their experience and expertise and invite open discussion and debate. Topics have covered: self-awareness of your own behaviour, personal finances, time management and “bouncebackability”.

Moreton Means Business Conference

Held every International Women’s Day, the MMB Conference invites business leaders to share advice on the realities of the business world through lectures and workshops with our pupils and invited students from local schools.

Annual Business Lunch

Moreton’s Annual Business Lunch is a must-attend, sponsored event which attracts more than 400 business guests from across the region. Previous speakers include: Sir William Hague, Baron Hague of Richmond, Sir Malcolm Walker, CBE, Founder and Executive Chair of Iceland Foods, and Xavier Rolet, former CEO of the London Stock Exchange.

Moreton Connect

Moreton Connect is a network of contacts amongst parents and Old Moretonians that Moreton students can access for career advice and other work-related opportunities. The bank of businesses, across a wide variety of sectors, offers our current students and recent leavers opportunities to access quality work experience placements and internships, as well as advice and guidance.

Rylands Diploma

Moreton’s bespoke Life Skills programme is a year-long course for the Lower Sixth designed to prepare pupils for life after Moreton. It covers such vital skills as interview preparation, personal finances and work-life balance.
